Your Networked Solution for Speech Privacy and Noise Control

Product Backgrounder

The LogiSon® Sound Masking System is a leading networked sound masking, paging and music system. Developed by and launched in 2003 by K.R. Moeller Associates Ltd., the LogiSon Network is the world’s first networked sound masking product.

What is sound masking?

Sound masking uses loudspeakers to distribute a comfortable, engineered background sound throughout your space, making it difficult to hear incidental noises or conversations. It helps increase speech privacy and address distracting activities in your environment (e.g. around desks in open plan offices).

How sound masking works

The noise floor is the level of constant sound present in a space. If it is too high, you’ll find it irritating. Too low, you can easily overhear conversations and noises. Sound masking creates a noise floor high enough to mask unwanted noises and low enough for comfort. It works because the human ear can’t separate or distinguish sounds of similar volume and frequency. A more consistent volume across a space also makes it feel quieter.

First networked sound masking, paging and music technology

In addition to the traditional benefits of sound masking systems, the networked technology of the LogiSon Network provides users with the flexibility to easily make adjustments to their system, as needs change. The LogiSon Network also offers paging and music broadcast functions.

The key components of the LogiSon Network provide users with the greatest depth of features available, yet it is still very easy-to-use. The key components include:

Control panel

Integral to each LogiSon Network is a centrally-located control panel that provides users with the flexibility to digitally control all settings for a single loudspeaker, a group of loudspeakers or the entire system. Other features of the control panel users can leverage include:

  • Ramp up – enables users to gradually increase volume over a defined period of time
  • Timer – allows users to schedule the volume to vary with activity levels during regular hours or holidays
  • Priority paging – allows users to page throughout the network in emergencies
  • Network performance and security monitoring – users can monitor the performance and security of the network

The control panels can be networked together so that the user can control up to 99 panels from a single PC using the Acoustic Network™ Manager software. The control panel can also be controlled using third party systems.

Software applications

The second key component of LogiSon Network is its software applications. An Ethernet connection between a control panel and a PC lets users make system adjustments using the Acoustic Network™ Manager software and provides multiple-floor or entire building control from one central location. The Page Director™ software allows users to create, modify or delete customized page zones on demand. Acoustic Network™ Supervisor sends an email to defined recipients if the LogiSon Network’s function is compromised.

Programmable keypads

Providing on-demand updates is integral to the LogiSon Sound Masking System. With the integration of programmable keypads and remote controls, users can update the audio in private offices and conference rooms, whenever they choose.

Hubs

Another important feature of the LogiSon Network is the integration of hubs. Hubs are the intelligent components of the LogiSon Network. By connecting hubs to the control panel in series, users can program the zoning and output of the loudspeakers. Users have the flexibility to fine-tune small areas of the Network (1 to 3 speakers), increasing the customization and effectiveness of the overall system. As well, hubs provide digital quality, multiplexed audio without the addition of sound generators, amplifiers or equalizers, reducing the costs, energy and space requirement usually needed for audio equipment.

Loudspeakers

A loudspeaker is connected to each hub. Each loudspeaker broadcasts the masking sound as well as other audio signals (paging and music) over the LogiSon Network. In addition to the masking sound, users benefit from their attractive enclosures, allowing the LogiSon Network to be installed in visible locations.

Additional features of the LogiSon Network include:

Single line of cable

A single line of cable carries power, control, and audio signals throughout the LogiSon Network. With the use of a single line of cable, users benefit from a rapid, accurate and tidy installation.

Ceiling mount adaptor

A ceiling mount adaptor quickly converts the loudspeaker for downward-facing installation in hard ceilings.

Award winning technology

The LogiSon Network is an award-winning sound masking technology. Since its launch, the LogiSon Network has won over 15 industry awards. For example:

  • Best of NeoCon 2003, Silver, Workplace Technologies
  • Best of NeoCon 2006, Silver, Workplace Technologies
